City Toyota, McLaughlin institute featured in magazine ad

Local readers of Time magazine may have been surprised to see a full-page advertisement in the Jan. 13 edition recognizing the work of two Great Falls businesses — City Toyota and the McLaughlin Research Institute http://www.montana.edu/wwwmri/ .

The space in Time was presented as a result of the Toyota President’s Award, which is given for excellence in all aspects of dealership operations.

City Toyota is owned by the Oakland family of Great Falls. The award for performance in 2001 recognizes the family’s commitment to the Mc-Laughlin Research Institute.

It’s the seventh such award for the Great Falls dealership, and the third time that company officials recognized the institute. Full-page spreads appeared in People magazine Aug. 3, 1998, and Aug. 16, 1999.

The Oaklands have recognized the C.M. Russell Museum and Montana Special Olympics in past years, said City Motors’ General Manager Leslie Oakland-Thomas.

"This is such great exposure for the research center, which is not as known as it should be," Oakland-Thomas said. "They’re first-class scientists, and we’re thrilled to be able to do this for them."

"The Oakland family generously gives time and money to McLaughlin Research and other Great Falls nonprofits helping to make this community a better place," said Dave Crum, the assistant director of development and operations.
