The Montana Economic Revitalization and Development Institute (MERDI) seeking state grant for infrastructure improvements

A local revitalization group will be closer to securing a state grant to help grow Butte’s telecommunications infrastructure and create jobs if the council OKs the application this week.

The Montana Economic Revitalization and Development Institute, or MERDI, http://www.merdi.org/ plans to apply for a Community Development Block Grant from the Montana Department of Commerce.

The money would go to upgrades on MERDI’s data center.

Karen Byrnes, Butte-Silver Bow’s director for community development, brought the plan before the Council of Commissioners at a recent public hearing.
