IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Executive Director

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting or business administration is required, with course work in business finance and analysis preferred. Acceptable experience in lieu of education would be a minimum of five years experience in commercial lending, accounting, business consulting or management, but some formal training in business finance and analysis is essential. Commercial or nonprofit lending experience strongly desired. Must possess excellent computer, organizational and communication (both written and verbal) skills. Must be proficient with computerized loan portfolio management and word processing software programs and common office equipment. Must have and maintain a valid Montana driver’s license. Must meet physical demands of position.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of commercial financing practices and procedures, including preparation of sound business plans, maintenance of business accounting systems, and analysis of financial information (ratios, cash flow, breakeven point, etc.) to gauge business performance and make recommendations regarding product pricing, management practices, and marketing strategies. The Director of Loan Services must also be prepared to analyze financing options for business start-up and expansion and to develop financing packages with multiple funding sources. Applicants for the position should be able to demonstrate skills in preparing and presenting written and oral loan summaries and portfolio reports using computerized financial analysis programs and loan portfolio management software; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, lenders, clients, investors, loan committee members, state and federal government agencies, and the general public. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to pay close attention to numerous details. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently, but also cooperatively with co-workers, government agencies, financial institutions, the private sector, general public and others. Must be able to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.

DUTIES OF THIS POSITION: The Director of Loan Services is responsible for management of loan programs, supervision of the loan portfolio, preparation of loan summaries for loan committees and preparing and submitting required reports (quarterly, semi-annual and annual) to Bear Paw’s funding partners (including state and federal agencies and the private sector). The Director of Loan Services also coordinates technical assistance for borrowers in cooperation with the local Small Business Development Center and packages applications for SBA 7(a) and 504 financing. The Director of Loan Services will work closely with the Executive Director on major economic development projects that include financial assistance from state or federal agencies as well as Bear Paw’s loan funds, on recapitalization of the loan fund, and will be expected to report to the Board of Directors on the overall performance of the organization’s loan program. Responsible for other duties as assigned by Executive Director. The Director of Loan Services supervises a Loan Technician.

Frequent travel is required within Bear Paw’s five-county region.

Occasional travel outside the region, including overnight travel to attend meetings, workshops and training seminars, is also required. Must be able to attend evening meetings.

ABILITIES AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires the skills to talk to and communicate with the public, co-workers, and groups. Sits at a desk, at meetings, and in vehicles for long periods of time. Uses hands and fingers to handle the telephone, computer, office equipment, and write. Vision abilities require the skill to review technical and legal documents, reports, telephone numbers, analytical and statistical reports. Stands and walks short distances. Stoops and bends, handles and lifts books, papers, and office equipment up to 50 pounds. Extensive travel is required to remote locations when performing job duties. May require climbing on and into various vehicles. Normal restricted smoking, office environment. Periodic exposure to dirt, dust, and fumes.
