Montana House backs historic rewrite of public school funding

HELENA – A bipartisan coalition in the state House on Monday amended and then endorsed a historic rewrite of public school funding in Montana, likely setting the bill on a path to Gov. Steve Bullock for his signature into law.

After more than 90 minutes of debate and a series of close votes, the House voted 60-40 to endorse Senate Bill 175, which has been nearly two years in the making and is supported by school districts across the state.

"You have to prepare our young people to go on, and this bill does it," said Rep. Duane Ankney, R-Colstrip. "Not only that, but it provides a stable form of funding."
