Treasure State tourism – Montana is marketing a brand called beauty

Between the pull of the pocketbook and efforts by other states — and other countries — to attract tourism, marketing is key, said Norma Nickerson. She points to large corporations like Coca-Cola and Budweiser beer that put their image in front of people with great frequency.

Nickerson, director of the Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research at the University of Montana, said "there are so many choices for places to go on a vacation, if you don’t have the visibility out there you’re forgotten."

If the marketing is done well, the advertiser will be rewarded, she said. Unfortunately, patience is required.
