(Butte, Mont.) – Montana U.S. Senator Max Baucus wrapped up his ‘Montana Solutions Jobs Tour’ today with a stop in Missoula before ending at the Montana Tech Campus in Butte, the site of the 2013 Montana Economic Development Summit. Along the way Baucus unveiled that Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg will headline this Summit in Butte September 16th and 17th. Sandberg was listed among TIME Magazine’s ‘The World’s 100 Most Influential People of 2012.’

“Time and time again we have proven that handshakes turn into deals and deals turn into jobs – that is what our Summits are all about. It’s my job to get the right investors in the door, and from there Montana businesses blow them away with all the exciting things they are doing across the state,” Baucus said. “When it comes to big names, they don’t get much bigger than Sheryl Sandberg and Facebook. Having a business leader of Sheryl’s caliber in Big Sky Country will help put Montana on the map as a growing hub for technology and innovation.”

Sandberg previously served at the World Bank and Chief of Staff for the U.S. Treasury Department. In 2001, Sandberg joined Google as a Vice President of Global Online Sales & Operations where she oversaw sales of Google’s advertising and publishing products and launched Google’s philanthropic arm.

Since March 2008, Sandberg has been the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook. She responsible for expanding Facebook’s global presence, managing sales, marketing, business development, human resources, public policy, privacy and communications. She was appointed to the board of directors in 2012 serving as its first female board member.

Sandberg released her first book in March entitled, “Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead.”

Today marked the final stop in Baucus’ ‘Montana Solutions Jobs Tour’ intended to spark a statewide conversation and action plan for bringing more good-paying jobs to Montana ahead of the Fall Summit. Along the way, Baucus was joined by President and CEO of the Montana Chamber of Commerce Webb Brown and local Chamber members. The Montana Chamber is partnering with Baucus and businesses across the state to put on this year’s Summit.

“Montana businesses are on the cutting edge of technologies in everything ranging from cloud computing to our natural resources. With Max’s help, we’re going to get some of the biggest names in business right here in Montana to help connect our folks with the resources and investments they need to take their companies to the next level and boost jobs across the state,” Brown said.
