This past February, State Farm Insurance conducted a national campaign to recognize and reward non-profits around the country. 3,000 causes were identified and the MAPS Media Institute was selected as one of the 200 finalists.

Founded in 2004, the MAPS Media Institute is an after-school program and unique public/private partnership in Ravalli County, Montana. For the last 10 years, MAPS has had a positive impact on middle, high and home-schooled students on every level of the educational spectrum. Some specifics: reduction in dropouts, increase in GPA, increase in credits attained et al.

But in the end, one major impact of MAPS resonates the most – creativity.

The evaluation and determination of the final 200 was conducted by the State Farm Insurance "Youth Advisory Board" (YAB). The YAB is comprised of 30 students, ages 17-20, from across the United States and Canada who serve a two-year term. Their directive is to implement a $5 million-a-year service-learning initiative to address issues important to youth and communities.

The MAPS submission is live on Facebook and the 40 causes that receive the most votes will be announced on April 29 and a $25,000 grant will be awarded to the affiliated nonprofits.

What is Neighborhood Assist? State Farm Neighborhood Assist empowers people to identify problems in their community, connects them with local nonprofits that can help solve the problem and provides an opportunity for communities to receive funding to make a positive impact in their neighborhood.
