Bike Walk Montana to hold first summit in Helena – Centennial Trail expansion still in design phase

The planned Centennial Trail expansion in Helena is exactly the kind of project the group Bike Walk Montana http://www.bikewalkmontana.org/ advocates for.

"Helena is not necessarily a safe city for biking and walking and so this gives people a safe place to go," said Melinda Barnes, executive director of Bike Walk Montana, as she stood on the Centennial trail where it passes underneath North Last Chance Gulch – one end of the planned trail improvement.

The first phase of the project, which comes with an estimated $1 million price tag, is planned run through town from the east end of Centennial Park to the intersection of Billings Avenue and Blaine Street near Walmart on the east side of Interstate 15, said Paul Montgomery, co-owner and vice-president of Anderson~Montgomery Consulting Engineers, who is charged with designing the trail expansion.
