"Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation Donates $10,000 to MAPS"

For the third consecutive year, the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation http://www.dpwfoundation.org/ have awarded a grant to the MAPS Media Institute http://www.mapsmediainstitute.com .

Says Mike Halligan, Executive Director of the Washington Foundation: "It is our pleasure to continue to support the MAPS program. The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation strives to better the human condition by supporting programs and services that give people the tools to enhance the quality of their lives and to benefit society as a whole. Our foundation’s continuing support of MAPS is well earned because they consistently achieve this goal."

Founded in 2004, MAPS is entering its 10th year. Funded by the Irwin and Florence Rosten Foundation, the after-school program is free of charge to Ravalli County students, grades 8 – 12.

MAPS derives its funding from two primary sources: 1) foundation grants and 2) fees from clients who hire MAPS students to produce commercials, documentaries and other media materials.

Other recent grants awards: 21st Century Learning Centers, the Montana Arts Council, CenturyLink and The Rapp Family Foundation. Current MAPS fee-based clients include: State Farm Insurance and Montana’s Office of the Govenor.

Says Daniel Losk, State Farm Insurance: "The MAPS Media Institute programs continue to have a significant impact on at risk students in Montana by providing alternative forms of learning through multi-media art, mentoring, and statewide business partnership."

MAPS ability to attract clients and real world revenue allows the program to do pro-bono work for a variety of community organizations free-of-charge. Most recently, MAPS has produced media for The Bitterroot Youth Homes, The North Valley Library and the Soroptimists.

Says Dennis Parman, Deputy Superintendent, Office of Public Instruction: "MAPS has become a model for arts education in Montana. The remarkable level of teaching, creativity and collaboration is the core of MAPS program."
