Under Secretary for Rural Development Dallas Tonsager announced today that Montana State Director Matthew Jones would be resigning effective today to take a job in the private sector. Jones was appointed by President Obama in July, 2009 to manage the Montana offices of USDA Rural Development.
"It is with bittersweet sentiment that I share the news that Montana State Director Matt Jones will be leaving Rural Development," said Tonsager. I want to thank Matt for his stellar service as State Director over the past four years of this Administration. Under Matt's leadership, Montana Rural Development has made historic investments, not the least of which is providing homeownership opportunities to over 5,200 rural Montana families totaling over $780 million in direct and guaranteed loans."
Administrative Program Director Janelle Gustafson has been selected to serve as the Acting State Director until such time that President Obama appoints a new State Director. USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, administers and manages housing, business and community infrastructure and facility programs through a national network of state and local offices. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America. Rural Development has a portfolio of more than $170 billion in loans and loan guarantees.
