Nonprofits need innovators, too

Applied to the nonprofit sector, does the board and staff have a clear idea of how to accomplish its goals? If the strategy is vague and sounds like it could be any organization’s strategy (such as helping all children live better lives), innovative thinking is needed.

Baumgartner also says innovation is a means to achieving a strategic goal. That sounds like vision to me. Does your nonprofit have one? Here’s how you can tell. If board meetings consist of listening to reports about things that happened last month, your innovation trolley is off the track.
