Lighting Missoula’s bridges is bright idea: Proposed project must be done in such a way as to enhance both aesthetic beauty of city and safety of its residents

Missoula is a town that spans several creeks and rivers, and that makes it a town of many bridges. During Montana’s long winter nights, some of these bridges are nearly as dark as the waters that flow beneath them.

With enough community support, that could change. A new group is proposing to light the city’s bridges, starting with the two of the pedestrian bridges over the Clark Fork River.

The folks who form Missoula’s "Light the Bridge" committee settled on starting with the Van Buren footbridge and the Madison Street underbridge after holding a public meeting and hearing from a bridge-lighting professional. That said, the committee is still in the very early stages of gathering information and forming a plan.

This much they know for certain: the project will be done in such a way as to enhance both the aesthetic beauty of Missoula and the safety of its residents.
