New SNAP program software under fire

NBC Montana is digging into complaints about a new multi-million dollar software system that manages food stamp benefits.

Monday morning a woman called to tell us she’d lost her benefits and had no idea why.

We’ve received calls and emails from people who tell us they are Department of Public Health and Human Services case workers and from folks who use the SNAP program http://www.deloitte.com/view/en_US/us/Industries/us-state-government/59e00b98fc001210VgnVCM100000ba42f00aRCRD.htm . They’ve detailed to us their thoughts on the new software system being used to run the SNAP program, which is the new name for what used to be known as food stamps.

Case workers we contacted have declined interviews because they say they fear they’ll be fired.
