Young Parents Education Center helps break poverty cycle

Bear Paw Development Corporation is a private non-profit organization created for the purpose of administering programs to help improve regional economic conditions in Hill, Blaine, Liberty, Chouteau and Phillips Counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy's Indian Reservations.

Nichole Emerson acknowledges there is a stereotype that can immediately spring into one’s mind when seeing a teen mother.

"When you see a teen mom in the mall, you certainly think …" she said.

As director of the Young Parents Education Center http://www.gfps.k12.mt.us/Schools/PGEC/web/AboutUs.html , Emerson is working to change what comes at the end of that thought.

Her center is doing a lot in that regard.
