Missoula applies for Bloomberg grant, up to $5 million to be awarded to ‘boldest ideas’

In the winter, Mayor John Engen gets a call from a Missoulian who has a huge snow berm piled high in front of his driveway, and the citizen can’t shovel it because he has lung disease.

He also needs to be out the door for a doctor’s appointment. Can someone at City Hall remove the berm so he can get out?

"The City of Missoula should be able to say ‘yes’ to every reasonable request of any of its citizens," said Engen.

That’s the premise of a million-dollar project the mayor is pitching to Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Challenge http://mayorschallenge.bloomberg.org/ . Government innovation is one focus of Bloomberg Philanthropies, a project of philanthropist and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
