June 2012

The Energy Internship experience:

Mara Menahan, Intern Summer 2011 with S.A.V.E. Foundation–Helena "As an Environmental Studies Major at the University of Montana, I am actively engaged with issues of sustainability. The Governor’s Energy Internship with Student Advocates for Valuing the Environment (S.A.V.E.), has allowed me to effectively translate the concepts I learn in the classroom into action […]"

Tess Barker, Intern Spring 2012 with Montana Audubon–Missoula
"Perhaps one of my favorite outreach projects with Audubon was recording an audio segment for ‘In Other Words,’ a Montana Public Radio show. […] The show gave me valuable experience in radio outreach, and it challenged me to discern how to best communicate information to listeners. This project, along with others I completed through Audubon, made me a more engaged Montana citizen interested in its energy future."

James Pallardy, Intern Fall 2001 with Montana Wind Energy Consortium (MSU)–Bozeman
"My research project examined the effects of out-of-plane wave flaws in composite wind turbine blades in an attempt to better understand how these flaws affect overall material properties and to develop a system to rank and categorize flaws by severity and criticality. A better understanding of flaws along with a system to categorize them, if used in industry, will prevent critically flawed blades from reaching the field and will help reduce the amount of cost intensive repairs and failures of mounted wind turbine blades. "
