Buck-a-room charge brings vitality to Helena tourism promotion
June 17, 2012 /
Efforts to promote tourism and events in Helena are getting a significant financial boost from people seeking a good night’s sleep.
Since 2010, many local lodging establishments have been tacking on an extra buck per night to room charges, with the money going to a Tourism Business Improvement District created by the Helena City Commission in late 2009. This year, the fledgling group will likely spend nearly $380,000 raised by the room charge.
The folks in the lodging business say the money raised by the buck-a-room charge has brought new vitality to tourism promotion in the Queen City.
