Great Falls bird carver wins big at prestigious international competiton

Great Falls artist Gerald Painter recently took first place in the advanced division at the 42nd annual Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition in Maryland, one of the most prestigious bird carving competitions in the world.

Painter, who specializes in miniature and life-size bird carvings, will receive a spot in the master’s division at next year’s championship, the highest class in the competition held in Ocean City each April.
