Dropout number disappoints at Missoula County Public Schools graduation update

Four fewer students have dropped out of Missoula County Public Schools http://www.mcps.k12.mt.us/portal/default.aspx this year, a number that disappointed many school district officials at a meeting Monday updating the community on Graduation Matters Missoula.

Mark Thane, one of three MCPS regional directors, said 91 students have dropped out during the 2011-12 school year, down from 95 the previous year. Although he would have liked to see a larger decrease, Thane said the numbers won’t be final until October.

Others at the meeting stressed the need to address graduation long before students reach high school.
