College of Idaho reinstates football program

The College of Idaho’s https://www.collegeofidaho.edu/ Board of Trustees voted Friday to bring back its long dormant football program. Not wanting to overshadow Saturday’s graduation festivities, the small liberal arts college did not announce its decision until Monday morning.

Such is the delicate balance that the school is trying to strike between its vaunted academic reputation, its quaint and integrated campus, and the desire to expand its mission and reach in the football-mad Treasure Valley.

"We’re really a great institution on many fronts. If football helps the rest of the world know that, then it’s a win-win," Athletic Director Marty Holly said during Monday’s enthusiastic celebration, which felt more like a pep rally than a press conference, with many attendees wearing purple football T-shirts.
