Educators share ideas, insights at Missoula TEDx talk – Videos of presentations coming shortly

TED talks have taken on everything from microbiology to world peace. On Wednesday, a Missoula version included how to get a kid off a car roof.

Cold Springs teacher Tracy Hardy had a serious point behind her facetious opening. She leads the structured learning classroom, where students with learning challenges often explain with their behavior what they can’t express in words, like wearing cardboard armor while doing math problems. And when you’re feeling threatened or insecure, Hardy said, the roof of a car looks like a safe place to sit.

Hardy’s was just one of several dozen 6- and 10-minute mini classes illuminating how Missoula teachers and students have tackled school improvement. The "Transforming Teaching Right Before Your Eyes" event http://tedxmcpsteachers2.wordpress.com/ was a licensed TEDx program, streamed live from Hellgate High School’s auditorium to other schools around the state.

(The videos of the presentations will be available in 2 to 3 weeks. MATR will post a link to them when available.)
