MRL contributes $100K for Bitterroot rail service

Trains will begin rolling again through the Bitterroot Valley on May 19.

That wasn’t the only news Montana Rail Link officials brought to a meeting in Hamilton with local shippers Wednesday.

The company announced it would contribute $100,000 toward the match for a $1 million federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant that would be used to pay for deferred maintenance on MRL’s Bitterroot rail line.

"That is really huge," said Julie Foster of the Ravalli County Economic Development Authority. "That’s half the match."
