Ohio State and Ohio universities joining forces to create $35M VC funding pool to turn research into jobs

Ohio State University and Ohio University announced today that they are joining forces to create a venture-capital fund to move more of their campus research discoveries into the marketplace.

Ohio State will put up $20 million; and Ohio University, $15 million, that will be for the early deveopment products such as drugs and technologys.

Venture-capital funds invest in new ideas in the hopes of gaining big returns. Ohio State and other officials had been vetting the idea for the past two years as a way to jump-start the state’s efforts to bring faculty inventors and business people together to turn ideas into money and jobs.
