Courses help researchers decide whether they can cut it in the business world

Out of the lab, into the real world

On a drippy Tuesday night, for this small pack of jeans-clad Carnegie Mellon University researchers and professors, the tables were turned.

The jeans-clad group trickled into the brightly lit basement classroom, flipped open their laptops and gazed at the panel of short-sheared men in suits and the projection screen in front of them.

It was time to learn how to become an entrepreneur.

Each week, these scientists gather for three-hour cram sessions designed to help them transform their inventions into dollar signs.
