Butte, Montana economic development team eyes more retail

The Butte economic development community can look back on a number of accomplishments in 2011, but also rue that the list isn’t longer.

Jim Smitham, executive director of the Butte Local Development Corp., said he considers the year a success because Butte kept a relatively low unemployment rate, survived summer-long construction on its biggest retail thoroughfare and saw a number of businesses expand.
