Port of Montana – Multi-faceted operation sees growth

The Port of Montana http://www.portofmontana.org/ , a county and state-affiliated transloading operation in the Butte TIFID, saw growth in some segments of its business in 2011.

Kathy Fasso, general manager of the port, said the automobile distributorship work saw a 35 percent increase over prior year. The port receives General Motors vehicles via train from the east, and then reloads them onto trucks or other train cars for distribution throughout the northwest.

An increase in that business showed the region’s automobile industry had bounced back from the depths of the recession, Fasso said.
