University of Montana Research Spurs Job Growth

Economist Paul Polzin says the growth in research is significant enough to offset many of the losses suffered in the more traditional Montana industries, like lumber and mining.

"These closures of the wood products industry have meant that the University of Montana and other state government offices are now the largest single component of Missoula’s economic base," said Polzin.
