Montana Chamber of Commerce not tied to national group

Tom Beaudette’s letter to the editor Dec. 26 ("2012 election: Local chamber") http://matr.net/article-47919.html has some inaccurate information.

The Montana Chamber of Commerce is not "directly tied" to the Missoula nor the U.S. Chamber. Our organizations are all separate entities.

The claim that we are related "by name and by membership dues" is also inaccurate. The general "chamber of commerce" name isn’t owned by anyone and certainly doesn’t automatically tie one chamber to another.

And, for the record, no part of our members’ voluntary dues pay the Montana Chamber’s voluntary dues in the U.S. Chamber. That’s why dropping dues in the Missoula Chamber has no positive impact. It doesn’t affect the U.S. Chamber at all and punished the Missoula chamber, and its local employees, for something they didn’t do.

Folks should contact the U.S. Chamber directly about their ads. it seems that might be the best way to get the facts about the issue.
