Montana needs to improve 2-year schools
Two-year colleges aren’t a popular option in Montana. Only 25 percent of Montana college students are in two-year institutions, compared with a national average of 46 percent.
The difference is unfortunate for students and potential students – adults of all ages. High-quality two-year colleges attuned to community needs can be the bridge to success in a four-year degree program or the door to a well-paying job in just months with a certificate or two years with an associate degree.
However, over the past decade, the student head count at Montana’s five colleges of technology has more than doubled and full-time-equivalent enrollment is up 94 percent. This year, the five colleges of technology had total enrollment of 8,670 students, which added up to 6,051 full-time-equivalent students.
