Impact of Wyoming Wind Project Could be over $60 Million

The proposed enXco wind project near Quaking Aspen Mountain could provide $60.8 million in economic impact during the six to nine month construction phase, according to a University of Wyoming analysis.

Greg Probst, enXco’s northwest region director, said the company contracted with David T. Taylor, Ph.D in UW’s Department of Agriculture and Applied Economics to perform its economic impact study after receiving suggestions from area residents.

According to the preliminary analysis, the construction phase would give $60.8 million in impact to Sweetwater County. The report suggests that businesses, workers and local governments would see direct and indirect payments totaling $40.7 million.

The project would pay $13.6 million in labor earnings, with $6.5 million in tax revenue also listed. The analysis also notes that 200 jobs would be created during the construction and development phase of the wind project.
