Montana State Fund Declares $6M Policyholder Dividend

At their November 18, 2011, meeting the Montana State Fund board of directors authorized a $6 million dividend, which will be paid to about 21,000 qualifying policyholders. The annual dividends are not a guarantee, but this will be the thirteenth consecutive year MSF has been able to rewarded customers with superior safety records.

"MSF’s Board was pleased that it could return dividends to companies who worked safer," said board Chair, Elizabeth Best. She added, "we need to take care of workers because they are employers’ most valuable asset.  We should never forget that safety is about the lives of real people. The fact that in these difficult economic times, these companies that have good safety records and performance were going to get a return on their workers’ compensation premiums was something that the Board wanted to emphasize."

Laurence Hubbard, President/CEO of Montana State Fund said, "our customers and their employees commitment to workplace safety helps keep the human and financial cost of workers’ compensation as low as possible." Hubbard also encouraged businesses to take advantage of Montana State Fund’s safety education and services available through safety consultations, free safety workshops and MSF’s safety focused website http://www.safemt.com.

Since 1999, Montana State Fund has awarded $64 million in general dividend payments as a reward for workplace safety. Those policyholders from July 1, 2008-June 30, 2009 who meet the criteria for a dividend, will be notified by mail in mid-December. Funds will be distributed by early January.

Montana State Fund provides workers’ compensation coverage to over 28,000 employers in the state, making it the largest workers’ compensation insurance company in Montana.
