City Club Missoula – Poverello Building Choice Expected In Weeks – Daytime Salcido Center won’t be part of new Poverello

Poverello’s board of directors will make a decision within a few weeks where it wants to build a new facility, said interim director Eran Fowler Pehan.

Fowler Pehan answered questions at Missoula’s City Club http://www.cityclubmissoula.org , where she was the keynote speaker.

There are three controversial choices, one, to stay at its present location downtown, the two others, to move to new sites on West Broadway. Fowler Pehan told city leaders that leasing property probably isn’t a choice because most federal grants require ownership.

Daytime Salcido Center won’t be part of new Poverello

When the Poverello Center builds a new home, it won’t include a daytime Salcido Center, interim director Eran Fowler Pehan said Monday.

But she said the shelter won’t forget namesake Forrest Clayton Salcido, a Missoula veteran and Poverello client found beaten to death near the California Street footbridge in 2007.

"We’re really committed to finding some way to honor him," Pehan said.

Pehan shared the Poverello’s plans and reminders of its mission with some 75 participants attending a City Club Missoula http://www.cityclubmissoula.org luncheon at the Holiday Inn Parkside Monday. The Poverello hasn’t announced where it will build the new soup kitchen and shelter, and board president Kate Gadbow said the discussion at City Club would help inform board members as they move forward.
