App Eases Simplifies Vehicle Charging

The rise of EV cars has been good for reducing emissions, but they add unknown variables to the utility infrastructure, because power companies aren’t sure when or how much their systems will be tapped to recharge batteries. That can cause too many fluctuations. Now IBM and Swiss utility provider EKZ have announced that they will be testing a new application for electric vehicle owners that will allow them to decide when to charge with renewable electricity or with fossil fuels. This would assist drivers in scheduling their charge sessions during off-peak hours, and could keep utility companies priivy to power demands.
