Green Investment Talks With 4 Potential Investors For Smurfit Plant in Frenchtown, Montana

The company that brought Smurfit Stone in Frenchtown reports it’s in talks with four potential business investors. Green Investment says two of the groups signed letters of intent, with two others presenting non-disclosure agreements.

All four are in recycling. One is a wood pellet manufacturing company. "The raw materials in Western Montana are important to a number of these groups," said site manager Tom Dauenhauer. " That’s what’s kind of drawing them here."

That could be beetle killed trees or small diameter logs. The hurdle for companies is securing commitments to a long term local supply of hog fuel. "There’s not a problem with getting hog fuel hauled in here," said Dauenhauer. "Some of the concerns are 15 and 20 year contracts."
