Wheeler Conference: Legal marijuana undermines drug war, official says

The federal government has spent huge sums of money in its war on drugs but fears those efforts will be undermined in states where medical marijuana is legal, says a former federal prosecutor.

Former U.S. Attorney for Montana William Mercer made that argument on Monday during the Wheeler Center Conference in Helena.

The Bozeman-based Wheeler Center http://www.wheelercenter.org/ holds two conferences each year focusing on public policy issues. This year’s fall conference, held Monday and today in Helena, focuses on medical marijuana.
