Seeking Independent Contractor to serve as:

Communications Manager for Montana Tourism PR Initiative
(applications taken until 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2011)

The Montana Lodging and Hospitality Association (MLHA) Board of Directors is looking to contract with an independent fulltime Communications Manager to implement an aggressive public relations campaign to highlight the importance of tourism to our state’s economy. Interviews for this position will be conducted starting September 30 in Helena.

The monthly contractor fee for this position will range from $4,000 to $4,500 plus travel expenses.

The Tourism PR Initiative’s approach will include:
Taking a proactive position in preparation for the upcoming legislative session.
Establishing tourism as a non-partisan issue that is top of mind for the target audience.
Complementing other tourism group efforts to tell a broader, more complete story.

Responsibilities:

The Communications Manager, working as an independent contractor, will execute the Tourism PR Initiative and handle the majority of the initiative’s deliverables. He or she will be responsible for championing tourism by educating the public, informing the politicians and empowering the public, communities and small businesses to become tourism ambassadors.

The Scope of Work for the Communications Manager will include:

Leveraging the power of traditional and social media.
Establishing tourism as a campaign topic for upcoming elections and as an ongoing powerful economic factor.
Informing politicians and the media about tourism and its importance.

Developing relationships with key tourism partners and implementing a tourism ambassador/local spokesperson program across the state.

Assisting with fundraising and other deliverables to fulfill the programs objectives.

Qualifications and Skills:

The Communications Manager will need to have significant experience in the following: working experience with members of the Montana media, community relations, government relations, issues management and public policy.

Other skills include:

Experience developing and writing media materials for Montana media and social media forums – i.e., pitch letters, articles, news releases, key messages, blogs, Tweets, Facebook posts, etc.

Solid written, oral and interpersonal communications skills as well as public speaking poise.
Must be energetic, a self-starter and comfortable working independently.
Must possess strong organizational skills and a wide range of technological abilities.

The Communications Manager will work with MLHA and other campaign supporters. In addition, he or she will work with a marketing communications agency that will provide overall strategic, messaging and research support, and will also develop and execute specific creative executions during the campaign.

The mission of the Montana Lodging and Hospitality Association is to support continued growth of travel, represent the industry in policy and legislative issues, and provide operational and educational services for current and prospective members.
