Park and Gallatin counties to re-form economic development district

Leaders in Gallatin and Park counties got together last week and re-formed the Northern Rocky Mountain Economic Development District http://www.nrmrcd.org/index.htm in an effort to further the region’s economic recovery.

The district had been dormant for more than a year before it was reinvigorated by officials of Gallatin and Park counties, along with West Yellowstone, Bozeman and Livingston city and private businesspeople Thursday.

Gallatin County recently applied for a $50,000 grant from the federal Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, said Earl Mathers, county administrator. Re-forming the district helps the county become more competitive in the grant application process, he said.

Beyond that, the still-recovering region is ready to embrace steps to encourage development, Mathers said.
