3 Rivers obtains $70 million loan to upgrade 10 exchanges

In mid August, 3 Rivers Communications will begin a five-year fiber project at 10 exchanges within the cooperative’s service area after being awarded a $70 million Rural Utilities Service (RUS) loan through the Department of Agriculture’s Telecommunications Infrastructure Loan Program.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced last week that rural telecommunications companies in seven states have been selected to receive nearly $192 million in loans for projects that will deliver broadband services to rural customers across eight states.

The announcement of the recipients of the loans was made by RUS Administrator Jonathan Adelstein on Vilsack’s behalf at the summer meeting of the Organization for the Promotion and Advancement of Small Telecommunication Companies in Minneapolis.
