Missoula based Micro-Trax – Dots track prized assets: Tiny IDs stick on items to help encourage return

MicroTrax
http://www.micro-trax.com/ is a new mobile asset protection system that uses tiny dots encrypted with an ID number to mark personal items for easy return – and to warn thieves that they might want to think twice.

The technology – mimicked on crime shows like "CSI" and used at huge events like the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics to deter theft – is a brand-new consumer product coming out of Missoula.

The tiny dots are smaller than a grain of sand and can hold more than 200 characters visible only under a microscope. When applied to an object, the dot sticks with it and acts as a covert identifier if objects end up lost or in the wrong hands.
