Today is the birthday of Norman McLean, who wrote the immensely popular novel "A River Runs Through It".

As reported to me by one of his close friends, McLean said, "Seeing what has happened to my beloved Montana rivers, I wish to God I’d written the novel about catfishing in Alabama."
