Corporations add their know-how to charitable efforts

"What I needed most was someone’s expertise in logistics to know how we could deliver more meals each week with our existing resources," says Cruz. "I knew we weren’t properly storing and distributing our product from our warehouse to our food pantry partners, but I didn’t know how to fix it."

She thought she knew someone who did.

"I called Wal-Mart, a company that’s known for logistics expertise," says Cruz. "They initially thought I was calling to ask for money. I said, ‘No. I want your management team, if possible.’ They said, ‘Judy, you can have anything you want.’"
