Major fiber optic project begins on Montana reservations

Montana West broke ground on a high-speed network in a place where life usually moves in a slower pace.

"The rural community has been left out," Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes tribal council member Carole Lankford said. "It’s time to just get up to speed with telecommunications and allow our children to have better opportunities in education and all different areas."

Ronan Telephone Company received a $13.7 million broadband stimulus award to build a new fiber optic network, spanning two Montana reservations, to speed up Internet connectivity.
