City Club Missoula Forum "Where’s Missoula’s Place On The World’s Stage?", 7/11, Missoula, Montana

City Club http://www.cityclubmissoula.org has a wonderful opportunity to share our mission of informing
and inspiring Missoulians, with International Students from Southeast
Asia, as a part of an exchange program between the Mansfield Center at UM,
and the U.S. Department of State.

Monday, 7/11/11

Holiday Inn Parkside

11:30 – 1:00

The Mansfield Center of The University of Montana is honored to host an
exchange program of the U.S. Department of State for the second year. The
Study of the U.S. Institute on Global Environmental Issues brings 20
English-speaking undergraduate student leaders from Cambodia, Indonesia,
Laos, and Vietnam to the U.S. for five weeks to learn about environmental
issues. The program is an important two-way exchange: not only do the
students learn about our community, but our community has an invaluable
opportunity for exposure to visitors from other countries.

The program provides the students with a wealth of cultural enhancements
and service projects to immerse them in U.S. society and culture,
including a month in Montana (with visits to Glacier National Park,
Helena, and the Flathead Reservation), as well as four-day visits to
Louisiana and Washington, D.C. to provide a more holistic introduction to
the U.S.

These students have been through a rigorous application process, including
review boards both at U.S. Embassies in their home country, as well as a
panel in Washington, D.C. Eleven women and nine men between the ages of
18-22 will participate this year. They will be accompanied on their
program by Dr. Len Broberg, director of UM’s Environmental Studies
Program.

Several students will introduce themselves, and discuss how this program
will affect their work back home.
