CBS newsman Barry Petersen says why Sidney, Montana’s special in memorable speech

When Sidney’s own CBS News journalist Barry Petersen returned home for the weekend’s centennial celebration, those who heard him speak Sunday were pleasantly surprised to learn the city’s roots go back far more than a century.

April 13, 1743, the day Thomas Jefferson was born. The man who wrote the Declaration of Independence, which stated that governments were instituted among men, and they have a right to abolish a government if it doesn’t serve its people’s needs. "On that foundation, an entire country was based," Petersen, a Sidney graduate, said to an attentive crowd.
