Missoula BarCamp 2011 – Thanks!

Dear Missoula BarCamper,

Thanks for a wonderful time at Missoula BarCamp. It was one month ago but
the experiences still reverberate. If I go into a listing of all the people
that deserve thanks, I may lose you before I get to the point. Please let
it be known, there were many involved that made the event a success. And
that especially includes the community of Missoula and environs. THANK YOU!!!

If you want to track the event reverberations, I recommend keeping an eye on
our website. There are some great session notes there, and I know there are
still some content pieces that will be added in the near future.

The person who first came up with the format for our "unconference", Harrison
Owen, recently looked at the Arab Spring events such as the massive gatherings
and protests in Cairo and elsewhere and added a "fifth principle".
Wherever it happens is the right place.

I experienced "wherever it happens is the right place" in Missoula tonight at
a gathering of the Montana Programmers. Yes, they showed up to learn a specific
programming technique, but over pizza and on the way out, the topics wandered
to Bitcoins and more. Well beyond what the organizers had planned.
And it was very alive.

What conversations have you been having after Missoula BarCamp? Have you been
looking into the Co-Working Missoula? Are you learning more about building cool
devices with Arduino (or Netduino)? How is your documentary/story-telling coming
along? How is it going taking responsibility rather than
blame/justify/shame/obligation?

Whatever your response – there were quite a number that have spoken to us
asking to get involved. We will be having a conversation about how to make
next year’s event better and perhaps to find ways to extend the event experience
into other cities or have it happen more often. If you are interested, please
respond to this email and I recommend you include your phone number as we may
need to change the venue. It’s most likely to happen at Zootown Brew downtown
Missoula this Saturday at 10am. We’ll look back a little bit mostly to look
forward. If you can’t make it, but wish you could, this won’t be the last
BarCamp conversation. So send us an email and we’ll let you know the next time.

Perhaps we’ll see you on Saturday, or at the next Missoula BarCamp, or
"wherever it happens"!

Most Superlatively,
Harold
