A class act from Missoula County Public School: Caring, connected students make us extra-proud of 2011 graduates

The class of Missoula County Public School http://www.mcps.k12.mt.us/portal/default.aspx graduates who will be accepting their diplomas this weekend are part of a generation best known for its connectedness.

The current class of high school graduates was born in the ’90s – at about the same time as the birth of the World Wide Web. Their childhood coincided with the growing use of digital technology. They have never known a time when communication wasn’t global, instant and widely accessible.

For these reasons, they have been called the Internet Generation, or Generation I, sometimes considered a subset of the much larger generation known as the Millennials – which is also sometimes called Generation Y, Generation Next or the Echo Boom generation. These would be the folks born between 1982 and 2001, according to William Strauss and Neil Howe, the authors of "Millennials Rising: The Next Great Generation."
