Missoula schools program lets high-school students recover credits for courses

Damon Anderson can’t wait to get to Seattle this fall and settle in on the campus of the University of Washington, where he’ll play rugby and study sports medicine for the next four years.

And he wasn’t about to let a course credit in American government get in his way.

The Big Sky High School senior needed the class and its credit. Missing it meant risking being marooned in Missoula.

"I would have had to redo it in the summer or next year, and that would be too much," said the 18-year-old.

So taking the advice of his senior counselor, Jim Lodge, Anderson enrolled in a credit-recovery program the Missoula County Public Schools district recently purchased.
