University of Montana Students Assist Taxpayers in Claiming Nearly $800,000 in Refunds

The University of Montana Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program has concluded another successful tax season assisting low-income taxpayers in completing their federal and state income tax returns.

The UM VITA program is a long standing community service activity of the School of Business Administration, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service. This year 36 volunteers assisted taxpayers in completing 499 federal income tax returns and 520 state income tax returns. Federal refunds received by taxpayers using the UM VITA program amounted to an incredible $791,491! All of this money flows back into the local economy.
