Smart meters take utility monitoring into the future

"Smart" meters have made their way to West Yellowstone.

They can’t pour someone’s morning cup of coffee or solve every electrical usage problem that may arise.

The meters do, however, come equipped with technological capabilities to provide two-way communication between electric utilities with the homes and businesses they’re connected to.

The meters will jump start future conservation efforts and help manage power outages in a timelier manner, according to Fall River Rural Electric Cooperative.
