Research, but still support charities: Despite recent rumors, scandals, worthy nonprofits abound

Western Montana has not climbed out of the national recession yet, unemployment is still too high, and local charities are still struggling to carry out their missions with scarce dollars.

Truly, it’s a tough time for charitable nonprofits and those who rely on them to get by – as well as for many donors who wish they could give more. The realities of a lingering national recession have made charitable giving increasingly difficult for many Montanans.

Moreover, recent criticisms leveled at some of the nation’s most visible nonprofits may have the unfortunate effect of causing some donors to question their own generosity.
